Privacy policy
Effective [LAUNCH_DATE]. Last updated 25 July 2026.
This policy explains what The Baby Gear Index (“we,” “us”) collects when you visit babygearindex.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can do about it. We’ve written it in plain English on purpose.
The short version: we don’t sell your data, we don’t build advertising profiles about you, and the only things we ask you for directly are your email address (if you choose to subscribe) and whatever you write to us. Analytics cookies stay switched off until you accept them.
Who we are
The Baby Gear Index is operated by [M_FULL_NAME], [BUSINESS_ENTITY_OR_SOLE_TRADER], [BUSINESS_ADDRESS].

What we collect
Information you give us
- Email address, if you subscribe to our newsletter or download a checklist. We use double opt-in, so you’ll be asked to confirm before we send you anything.
- Anything you put in an email to us — your address, name if you sign it, and the content of your message.
Information collected automatically
- Analytics data, if you accept analytics cookies: pages viewed, time on page, referring site, approximate location (country/city level, derived from a truncated IP address), device and browser type, and which outbound product links were clicked. This is collected through Google Analytics 4 and is used in aggregate — we use it to learn which guides are useful, not to identify you.
- Standard server logs kept by our hosting and network providers (IP address, request time, user agent) for security and to deliver the site. These are technically necessary and are not used for tracking or profiling.
What we don’t collect
We don’t ask for your name, address, phone number, payment details, or anything about your children. We have no login accounts and no user profiles. We don’t knowingly collect any information from children — this site is for adults buying products, and we don’t direct it at anyone under 16.
Cookies and consent
- Essential cookies keep the site working and record your cookie choice. These are always on; the site can’t function without them.
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4) are off by default. They’re only set after you accept them in the cookie banner. Decline, and no analytics cookies are set and no analytics data is collected.
- We don’t run advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If we ever add display advertising, this policy will be updated before it goes live and advertising cookies will be added to the consent banner as a separate, opt-in choice.
You can change your mind at any time by clearing your cookies for this site, which will bring the banner back, and you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Affiliate cookies: when you click a product link and land on a retailer’s site, that retailer (for example Amazon) may set its own cookie to credit us with a referral. That cookie is set by them, on their domain, under their privacy policy — not ours. See the “who we share data with” section below.
Why we’re allowed to process it (legal bases)
For visitors in the UK, EU, and other jurisdictions with similar law:
| What | Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Newsletter email | Send you the guides and updates you asked for | Consent (you opt in; you can withdraw any time) |
| Analytics data | Understand which content is useful and improve it | Consent (via the cookie banner) |
| Server logs | Deliver the site, keep it secure, prevent abuse | Legitimate interests |
| Your emails to us | Reply to you | Legitimate interests / taking steps at your request |
Who we share data with
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do use third-party service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Google Analytics 4 — website analytics, only if you consent. Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
- MailerLite — email delivery and list management, if you subscribe. Their privacy policy: mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- Vercel — website hosting.
- Cloudflare — DNS, security, and content delivery.
Separately, when you click an affiliate link you leave our site and the destination site’s own privacy policy applies. Amazon: we participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program; Amazon uses cookies to attribute referrals and processes your data under its own privacy notice.
We may also disclose information where we’re legally required to.
International transfers
We’re based in the United Arab Emirates and our service providers are largely based in the United States. If you’re in the UK or EEA, your data may be transferred outside your country. Our providers use standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards for these transfers.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter email: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, plus a short period to honour the unsubscribe.
- Analytics data: retained by Google Analytics for a maximum of 14 months, in aggregate.
- Emails you send us: as long as needed to handle your enquiry, typically no more than two years.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- correct it if it’s wrong;
- delete it;
- object to or restrict how we use it;
- withdraw consent at any time (unsubscribing, or declining cookies);
- data portability — receive your data in a portable format;
- not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we have not done so in the preceding 12 months. You still have the rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out — use the email below.
To exercise any right, email [CONTACT_EMAIL]. We’ll respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm that the request is genuinely yours before acting on it.
If you’re in the UK or EEA and you’re not satisfied with our response, you have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. We keep the number of places your data lives deliberately small — we don’t run a database of visitors and we hold no payment information. No system is perfectly secure, but there’s very little here to lose.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data — for example, if we add display advertising — we’ll update this page and change the “last updated” date before the change takes effect. Material changes affecting subscribers will also be sent by email.
