The Baby Gear Index exists because buying baby gear is a research problem disguised as a shopping problem, and almost nobody treats it that way.
Search for a stroller and you’ll get forty near-identical lists of “the 25 best strollers of the year,” all recommending roughly the same eight products, none of them able to tell you the one thing you needed: whether it fits in your trunk. Not “compact.” Not “travel-friendly.” Whether the folded dimensions fit the boot of a 2019 Corolla, with the parcel shelf in.
That’s the gap this site is built in. Every guide here answers one specific question for one specific situation — a small car, a small nursery, twins, a tall parent, a house with thick walls, a grandparent’s spare room — because that’s how the decision actually gets made at 1 a.m. with a due date approaching.

I run The Baby Gear Index. I’m not a pediatrician, a certified car seat technician, or a product engineer, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise — you’ll never find a fabricated credential or an invented anecdote on this site.
What I am is someone who’s good at research, stubborn about sources, and unwilling to publish a recommendation I can’t defend. I built and run a second site in a different category on the same principle: read the specs properly, read the owner feedback in bulk, cite the people who actually run the labs, and say plainly when something is outside what I can verify.

What we promise
We don’t fake experience. We analyse published specifications, certifications, and patterns in owner feedback, and we compare products head-to-head. We do not test products by hand, and we never say we do. The full method — including what we refuse to do — is on how we research.
We cite the people who do the testing. For anything safety-related, our facts come from NHTSA, the CPSC, JPMA certification listings, the federal standards themselves, or Consumer Reports’ published lab work — attributed, so you can check us.
We lead with the cheapest option that genuinely works. Not the one that pays us most. Where spending more buys you something real, we say what; where it doesn’t, we say that instead.
We tell you how we’re paid, repeatedly. The Baby Gear Index is reader-supported: we may earn a commission when you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you. There’s a disclosure at the top of every page and the full explanation on our affiliate disclosure page. No brand pays for a recommendation here.
We correct ourselves in public. Products get recalled, revised, and discontinued. When a pick stops being the right answer, we change the page.
